How are Forest School sessions organised?
Forest School Session Organisation
Copthorne Junior's Forest School is delivered over 3 full day sessions every Tuesday, and every second Thursday.
Groups will visit the same woodland site on a regular basis, except for when there are extreme weather conditions, such as high winds or very heavy rainfall. Additional sessions, for example for pond dipping or applying skills learnt to our own environment, will be arranged on-site.
The children will walk the short distance (approximately 10 minutes) from school, supervised by the Forest School staff and pulling all the equipment needed in our two trolleys, 'Tom and Jerry'. A map showing the route taken to/from school to the Forest School site is available below.
When the child is scheduled to take part in Forest School we ask that they bring in clothes and footwear which is suitable for the weather. Waterproof trousers and wellies are recommended in the winter as the site becomes very muddy. They will also bring snacks and a hearty packed lunch - including any foods for heating up or toasting on our campfire! A full kit list will be sent out well in advance and is also available to download below.
Forest school activities are child led but we do offer a range of springboard activities which are often inspired by the topics of each class.
