Year 6 - Season of Summer 2021

Year 6 Forest School - The Season of Summer

Well, after quite a soggy and cold spring, it has been great to get out into the woods as the sun has come out and the temperature begun to soar! The woods are really starting to change now, with a canopy full of leaves and the undergrowth thickening up as plants explode into life!

Year 6 have started their adventures out in the woods with so many different activities! We have been building huge dens, learning to use the bow saw, whittling away at wood and toasting puff pastry over the fire. Clay has been mined and modeled, fire strikers have created countless mini fires and faces decorated with home-made paints! There has also been a lot of group fun with blindfold games and water pistols. I wonder what else we will get up to?

UPDATE (end of term):

Well, after a LOT more rain, turning our Forest School into a World War One battleground of mud and puddles, we managed to work our way round various Covid-19 school bubbles bursting to ensure everyone in Year 6 had a visit to the woods. We celebrated with full English breakfast fry-ups, toasting waffles and creating some of the best dens ever seen (more like cabins, really!). Amazing effort, Year 6, you should all be very proud of yourselves!

With the Year 6 Summer Forest School adventure coming to an end, it is time to ask the children what they thought about their time in the woods.

What new things did they learn or discover? How have they changed in themselves? What were the highlights? What new adventures are they looking to next time?
