Science - School Pond Creature ID Cards

HOME LEARNING - SUMMER TERM WEEK 11 - SCIENCE

CREATE A 'POND CREATURE ID CARD'

Our school pond is 'Open for Business', getting a full 'lockdown makeover', with easy access all the way round, repainted woodwork, dug out edges (to make it a bit bigger!) and a full investigation into what creatures are living within the depths!

When you all get back to school, you will have the opportunity to pond dip from the edges and investigate some of these amazing creatures for yourself ... but what will you discover.

LOOK AT THE POND MINIBEAST KEY BELOW. This was made by Mr T once the pond reconstruction was over. It has on it all the different creatures we have discovered so far ... I know there are many more still to find!

TASK: Choose a Pond Creature to Create an Identification Card About

We want you to become an expert on ALL the animals in and around the pond, but one step at a time. This week we would like you to choose ONE creature off the 'Pond Minibeast Key' to research.

LOOK AT THE EXAMPLE IDENTIFICATION KEY CARDS BELOW. Mr T has started this task, but would like your help creating some of your own. By all means use the layout idea to help you get started. Make sure the ID card has:

  • Some clear pictures
  • Information to describe how it looks / moves
  • Idea of the size
  • Maybe an amazing fact

There are LOTS of websites full of information, as well as countless pond and insect books to have a look at too. CLICK ON A FEW OF THE LINKS BELOW TO JUMP TO SOME USEFUL WEBSITES.
