Reading Comprehension - Think Like an Author - Y3 Skill - (Day 2 of 3)
FOCUS - THINK LIKE AN AUTHOR - DAY 2 of 3
This week we are looking at a pure Year 3 comprehension skill. It is a bit trickier than some of the others, so watch the PowerPoint carefully and really think through the questions, using the text to help you.
The AUTHOR is the writer of the text. They choose words and phrases for effect and impact on the reader. But why did they choose them? It is time to 'think like an author' and explain why certain words and phrases have been used.
Load up and read through the PowerPoint below. This will introduce you to "Arlo the Author" and the type of questions he will be asking you after you read each short piece of text over the next 3 days.
There is just 1 PowerPoint and 1 task below for the comprehensions this week. It is aimed purely at Year 3, with no Year 2 task, as this is a new skill just for those super intelligent Year 3s! So, read through the PowerPoint skills carefully and try to use these new skills to answer the questions in the text extract.
Once you have read the short piece of text, complete the questions. The answers are on the last sheet ... so no cheating! PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK WITH THE ANSWER SHEET BEFORE HANDING IN YOUR WORK TO YOUR TEACHER - this will give you a chance to see what you did well with and any questions you made a mistake on, with a chance to correct and reflect on what the answer should have been and why.
