Reading - Year 3 Reading Test
HOME LEARNING - SUMMER TERM WEEK 11 - READING ACTIVITIES
Daily Reading
Please continue to read each day. This can be to an adult, quietly to yourself or alongside an audio book. Try to read a variety of books, including fiction stories, non-fiction information and maybe some poetry!
Year 3 - End of Year Reading Comprehension Test - 2018
NOTE: This test has a colour reading booklet, then an accompanying test booklet to fill out. If you do not want to (or cannot) print the document, by all means read from the screen and discuss the questions, writing answers onto paper or pointing them out on the screen.
The reading booklet is divided into 3 sections, each with a different genre of writing:
- BRILLIANT BIRDS - Information Text
- THE NIGHT VISITOR - Story
- HURRICANE - Poem
Each section has an accompanying series of questions in the student question booklet.
Children are encouraged to refer back to the magazine reading booklet to help them with the answers - this is NOT a memory test.
The best way to complete this test is in 'chunks', one section at a time. You may want to do this over several days rather than all in one go ... it can take up to an hour.
Get your child to read the section out loud with you. By all means talk through and discuss the text with your child to give them some support - though avoid giving them the answers!
You can ask and answer one question at a time if you wish, discussing the answer and the strategies used to find the information. Alternatively, you can do one whole section and discuss the answers at the end.
ANSWERS ARE IN THE BOOKLET ON PAGES 14 TO 21
