HOME LEARNING - SUMMER TERM WEEK 1 - THE MATHS FACTOR and/or BBC BITESIZE - FRACTIONS

This week, we would like you to practise and improve your knowledge about fractions.

Before Christmas we started learning all about fractions. We started off by learning about the numerator (top of the number) and the denominator (bottom of the number) and what they can tell us. Then we had a go at shading fractions of shape, finding fractions of number and adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator! So, some of Carol Vorderman's lessons should hopefully be familiar to you!

We suggest using the themathsfactor.com website for these lessons this week. At the moment it is free to use and includes lots of videos to teach the lesson with some practise questions at the end to check your understanding.  Go to www.themathsfactor.com and once you've signed in click on the 'Course Topics' button. Then scroll down the page til you find the 'Adventurer' section. Next find 'Topic 19- Lovely Fractions', click on it and start learning laugh

Also, you can play the videos as many times as you need and feel free to write things down if you need to. You can even earn a certificate at the end of each lesson- perhaps you could send in a photo of these for our gallery!

If you haven't already created an account please do so as soon as you can- with a high demand of new users it can take up to four days for new users to be authorised.  If this is the case please don't worry- you can either continue with other set work for the week and have a 'Maths Day' towards the end or contact your class teachers and we'll be happy to help you.

Another useful resource is BBC KS2 Bitesize which has some useful short videos about fractions. Follow this link to find the useful fractions videos- https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdwxnb.

For something that is a little bit different have a look at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/.

White Rose is a scheme that is used by lots of schools to help promote 'mastery' of Maths through problem solving. While schools are closed their website is giving free lesson activities for parents to use at home. Click on 'Week 1' and 'Summer Term Week 1' to have a go at some of their lessons on fractions. It has video lessons and problem solving questions that can be printed. Each lesson also has a set of answers.
