Day 9 - UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (UAE)
Well, Day 9 sees me take a short break to visit my sister in the UNITED ARAB EMIRATES.
My sister and family live in DUBAI, but when I visit we like to go exploring all the nooks and crannies of the other Emirate States, especially diving in FUJAIRAH and the amazing deserts and mosques of ABU DHABI.
I have been lucky enough to visit my sister (Christine) 5 times now, so have visited many of the main sites on so many posters advertising Dubai around the world: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Frame, Dubai Marina, The Palm, Burj Al Arab, The Creek (Old Dubai Town), Butterfly Garden and Miracle Gardens ... to name but a few!
However, what blows your mind is the whole futuristic / sci-fi set up of a city that pretty much didn't even exist 20 years ago! Everything is so big or tall ... or just completely mad, such as the world's largest indoor ski slope in one of the world's hottest countries, accompanied by opportunity to feed the penguins!
MAGIC MOMENTS: Camping in Abu Dhabi's 'Dead Quarter', the most beautiful deserts I have ever seen anywhere, with towering dunes of red sand surrounding flat salt pans. This is where they filmed Star Wars Force Awakens! Totally silent and miles from anywhere. Felt like you were on another planet! Strange really, but for all Dubai's amazing modern wow-factor ... the true magic happens 100 miles away in the middle of nowhere!
