For Day 3 of my global expedition, I have chosen to hit the West African country of Mauritania.

This was a real adventure! I came into Mauritania from Senegal and departed into the Western Sahara.

It is a country filled with lots of desert and very few roads! When I went there, the only way between the capital city and second largest town up the coast was to drive along the beach at low tide as there was no road to link them!

We explored remote desert oasis villages, camped among the dunes and got stuck quite a few times in the soft sand!

AMAZING MEMORY: Standing on the far western edge of the Sahara Desert and looking west, knowing the desert beneath my feet stretched solidly for 3000 miles or so to Egypt and the Red Sea. Wow!
