English- Summer Term Week 8- Newspaper (Pt 2)
Hello budding journalists! Now that you've completed your one week training course at the Copthorne Chronicles, it's time to upgrade and move to the Weekly Chronicle. Edith, the editor, needs your help! There has been some strange goings on at the Zuckerman's Farm and it's in the newspaper's interests for your to write an article on this!
By the end of the week you need to have produced an article ready to be sent to Edith for editing before it's published in the paper!
You have got THREE sessions to do this.
Listen to chapters 8,9,10,11,12 and 13 to find out all the information you'll need to know. We suggest you make some notes on chapter 11 and 13- this will be useful for your article.
As this will probably take up a lot of time, use the rest of this session to make a start on your plan. Make sure you have filled out the newspaper name, date and 5Ws introduction by the end of this session. We suggest leaving the headline until after you've planned the rest of your article. Edith knows you're new to the job and has given you some examples to help!
Make sure you finish this plan. With your notes from yesterday start filling out the rest of your plan. Edith wants you to include what has happened before at the farm and a bit of a back story about the pig. There were some rumours of something bad happening to the pig in future so include that too! Just to detailed bullet point notes for your different sections- you can add more detail when you write it neatly. Please try and make a start on your draft in this session too, as Edith won't have long to edit your article before it goes to print!
Use this session wisely to finish off your draft. If you want to have a go at writing in traditional newspaper columns you can use our template but feel free to write it normally. By the end of this session you need to have made sure that all main features of a newspaper have been included- if you've got any pictures make sure they have captions to go with them! When you've finished check through your article to make sure all your facts are true and your spellings are accurate.
Once you've finished your draft send it to Edith for final approval.
If you need any help or advice please contact Edith (your teachers).
