Art & DT - Design & Create a Fairy Home

HOME LEARNING - SUMMER TERM WEEK 11 - ART & DESIGN ACTIVITY

DESIGN (and/or) CREATE A FAIRY HOME

Okay, let's get one thing straight right from the start ... FAIRIES (faeries) ARE REAL!

As part of my Forest School training, I have looked at the folklore surrounding trees. To my amazement, just about every tree seems to have a link that dates back (sometimes 1000's of years!) to magic and the faeries! It does not seem to matter where you are in the world, but there are mentions of 'the little people'. How can stories spring up separately on almost every continent over 1000's of years and not have some grains of truth!

Obviously, we cannot 'see' faeries. They do not want to be seen by us (and can you blame them really?) and use their magic to remain invisible from our eyes. Occasionally you may see a blur dart past the corner of your eyes, vanishing before you can turn your head. That was a faerie.

They choose to live out in the woods and forests, finding quiet and peaceful spots, nestling their homes into the roots of trees.

TASK - DESIGN (and/or) CREATE YOU OWN FAERIE HOME

Okay, no-one knows what a fairy home actually looks like, but we can make a few guesses.

They will be made of all natural materials gathered from the woods. Nothing from artificial or fake like those pesky humans use!

Children from all over the world go into the woods each year and make tiny fairy houses to encourage the little people to set up home near where they live. Now it is your turn to try.

LOOK AT THE EXAMPLES BELOW of fairy homes made by children to give you some ideas.

REVIEW THE CHECKLIST BELOW of things you could collect to make your fairy home.

Now find a spot in the garden or local woods and go make something magical!

Take a picture and send it to your teacher to bring some of that magic onto their computer screen!
