Young Carers
We recognise that children who are Young Carers often have considerable additional responsibilities which affect their learning. We ensure we support these children effectively by:
- knowing who they are
- understanding what their individual needs are
- supporting them in a way that helps them as an individual
- referring them for extra support if needed
West Sussex County council offers a Young Carers Family Resource Service which is available to consult and advise schools on the early identification and provision of support for young carers in education. It also provides direct work with children and their families, where the caring role negatively impacts on the child's health and wellbeing, to ensure they can fully engage in learning and reach their full potential.
